About Silicone and Adhesives

Silicone sealants and adhesives are inert, synthetic compounds with a wide variety of forms and uses. They are typically heat-resistant and rubber-like.

Adhesives and glues are mixtures dispensed in a liquid or semi-liquid state, applied to adhere or bond items or materials together. Adhesives do not form an instantaneous bond, unlike other joining processes, because the adhesive needs time to cure (harden). Adhesives cure by either evaporating a solvent or by chemical reactions that occur between two or more constituents. Adhesives are advantageous for joining thin or dissimilar materials, minimizing weight, and when a vibration-dampening joint is needed

A sealant is a viscous material that changes state to become a solid once it is applied. Sealants create a barrier to prevent the penetration of air, gas, dust, fire, smoke, liquid, and even noise from one location into another. Typically, sealants are used to close small openings that are difficult to eliminate through other processes or materials. Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) sealant starts to cure as soon as it is exposed to moisture in the air. It is necessary that you work quickly when using RTV silicone sealant.

Applications & Industries

Signage

Signage

Many new sign-grade plastics are enhanced for better longevity and endurance in conditions traditional signage materials can’t handle.

Manufacturing

Manufacturing

There are many benefits to using performance plastics in manufacturing environments. Replacing metal parts with longer-lasting plastic parts can decrease those costs, while increasing mean time between repairs (MTBR) and producing less waste.

Glass Glazing

Glass Glazing

Glass is incredibly heavy, and can create a major safety hazard when it cracks, breaks, or shatters. Fortunately, there are clear plastic options that retain the transparency of glass but are much more durable.

Building & Construction

Building & Construction

Polymershapes can equip your next project with high quality plastic building materials that will not splinter, warp, rot, or delaminate. Building and construction plastics provide UV and corrosion resistance, impact resistance, and other qualities that protect the integrity of your construction project.
