About Aisle Containment Systems

Aisle containment systems are data center cooling strategies that physically separate hot and cold airflows within server rooms to prevent mixing, thereby optimizing thermal management. These systems are typically implemented in one of two configurations: hot aisle containment or cold aisle containment.

In hot aisle containment, the hot exhaust air from servers is enclosed and directed back to the cooling units, while in cold aisle containment, the cold supply air is enclosed and delivered directly to the server intakes. By maintaining a more consistent temperature distribution, aisle containment significantly increases cooling efficiency, reduces energy waste associated with overcooling, and minimizes the risk of hotspots. This targeted airflow management allows for higher server densities, as equipment can operate safely at closer proximity and higher loads without exceeding thermal limits.
